GRAY – Abby McInerney had a goal and an assist Wednesday to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 2-0 victory against Gray-New Gloucester in a Western Maine Conference game as various teams around the state opened their field hockey seasons.

McInerney set up Megan Nicholson with the first goal and Hailey Petsinger assisted McInerney on the second.

Adrianna Kimball had 12 saves for Gray-New Gloucester.

PORTLAND 5, NOBLE 0: Lauren McIntyre had two goals and an assist to lead Portland at North Berwick.

McIntyre set up Isabelle DiMillo with a first-half goal. McIntyre and Shannon Boyle added two goals apiece in the second half.

THORNTON ACADEMY 3, DEERING 0: Morgan Dube scored twice to help Thornton Academy win at Portland.

Dube scored the only goal of the first half, 20 minutes into the game. Kaitlin Hilton added a goal at 21:15 of the second half and Dube made it 3-0 one minute later.

Gabrielle Capozzi secured the shutout with three saves. Sadie Rhinehardt had six stops for Deering.

MASSABESIC 5, SANFORD 2: Jackie Guillemette assisted on three-first half goals by Maggie Redman, including two in the first 2:09, for the Mustangs at Waterboro.

Guillemette and Mira Kuni also scored as Massabesic took a 5-1 halftime lead.

Marissa Nance scored twice for the Spartans.

BONNY EAGLE 2, WINDHAM 0: Cassidy Merrill had a goal and an assist as Bonny Eagle won at Standish.

The Scots scored twice in the first half: Merrill unassisted with 10:10 left and Leah Carter with 4:15 remaining.

CONY 2, MT. ARARAT 0: Abby Naborowsky scored after 7:22 and Cony went on to win at Augusta.

Katie Carroll set up the goal on a penalty corner. Carroll then scored with 10:54 remaining in the half, assisted by Emily Bowers.

BRUNSWICK 1, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Grace Rabinowitz scored from Sarah McQuoid at 16:21 of the first half and Jordan Van Savage made 18 saves for the Dragons at Auburn.

GORHAM 4, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Andrea Stemm scored unassisted with nine minutes left in the first half and Gorham went on to win at home.

Charlotte Smith made it 2-0 with 19:24 left in the game, and Kayli Leavitt and Emmy Viernes added goals in the final four minutes. Hannah Southard had two assists.
