ROYAL OAK, Mich. — The Detroit Zoo has a new seal that was found stranded along the coast of Maine.

The zoo in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak says the female grey seal pup turned up near Georgetown and was rescued by Marine Mammals of Maine.

Named Georgie, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration determined that she couldn’t be released because she has compromised eyesight.

The seal arrived at the Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center in March. She got to the Detroit Zoo in June and now weighs 140 pounds.

She joins grey seal Kiinaq, harp seal Pequot and harbor seals Sidney and Freita in the Arctic Ring of Life exhibit.
