PORTLAND – Joe Fitzpatrick opened the scoring on a 5-yard run 3:14 into the game and finished with five touchdowns as Cheverus dominated Lewiston in a 67-8 Class A football victory Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
Cody O’Brien, Zordan Holman, Jack Zinn, Lowell Harmon and Sam Thayer also scored touchdowns for the Stags (2-0), who led 49-0 at halftime.
Lewiston (0-2) got on the board with 3:42 left on a 49-yard touchdown catch by Sheon James.
BIDDEFORD 34, MASSABESIC 14: Fullback Capen Macomber followed his offensive line for 133 yards, including touchdown runs of 2 and 4 yards, as the Tigers (1-1) beat the Mustangs (0-2) at Biddeford.
Casey Twomey added a 25-yard touchdown pass to Corey Creeger and scored on a quarterback sneak.
Biddeford established control early. Massabesic, which received the opening kickoff, fumbled on its first play on a hit by Sasha Kurlychek-Godard. Steve Lekakos recovered, and Biddeford drove the short field for Macomber’s first touchdown.
The Mustangs went three-and-out on their next possession. Biddeford’s ensuing drive ended with Corey Brown’s 2-yard scoring run.
Creeger, playing safety, had two interceptions.
GREELY 38, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 24: John Burton threw three long touchdown passes and Sam Peck scored twice to lead the Rangers (1-1) past the Raiders (0-2) in Fryeburg.
Burton hit on scoring passes of 72 yards to Connor Handley and 66 yards to Peck in the opening quarter, but Fryeburg’s Ryan Gullickson connected on two short scoring pass to Cody Loewe and William Rascoe twice rushed for the conversion, to give the Raiders a 16-14 lead after one quarter.
Greely scored the only points of the second quarter, though, on TD runs by Sam Peck and William Peck, to take a 26-16 haltime lead.
The Rangers extended the lead to 32-16 in the fourth quarter on a James Ferrar touchdown, only to have Fryeburg close to within 32-24 when Gullickson ran in from 25 yards and passed for a 2-point conversion.
Greely finally put the game away with Burton’s 47-yard touchdown pass to Nat Pisini in the final minute.
WESTBROOK 30, MT. ARARAT 0: Collin Joyce accounted for 75 of the Blue Blazes’ 265 rushing yards and two of their five rushing touchdowns as Westbrook (2-0) beat the Eagles (0-2) at Topsham.
Joyce scored on runs of 22 and 17 yards. Kyle Heath added a 5-yard TD run, Maurice Johnson had an 8-yard TD, and Bailey Sawyer scored from 3 yards.
Jack Mickles gained 68 yards on 20 carries for Mt. Ararat.
CONY 52, BREWER 12: Ben Lucas completed 13 of 21 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns as the Rams (2-0) routed the Witches (0-2) at Augusta.
Cony dominated the first half, registering two safeties while holding the Witches to two first downs, both via penalties.
Sophomore Reid Shostak scored three times on short runs, while junior Tayler Carrier caught five passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns.
Lucas also completed a 24-yard scoring pass to first-year senior Mitchell Bonenfant in the first half. Cony Coach Robby Vachon substituted in the second half, and the Witches took advantage as sophomore quarterback Logan Rogerson scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter and threw a scoring pass of 9 yards to tight end Tyler Davis in the fourth.
WATERVILLE 54, NOKOMIS 8: Brian Bellows threw two touchdown passes — both to Jordhan Levine — and rushed for another score to pace the Purple Panthers (2-0) past the Warriors (1-1) at Newport.
Waterville led 19-0 after the first quarter and 47-0 at the half.
Ethan Madore rushed for two touchdowns, and Denis Dalton returned a punt 55 yards for a score.
