PORTLAND — The Portland Regional Chamber presented on Tuesday night its community leadership awards, recognizing Portland’s Mayor Michael Brennan and local businesses for their contribution to the community.

The 159th annual awards event at the State Theatre, attended by about 500 people, highlighted local chefs, local artists and new additions to the business group. The Chamber has grown its membership in the past year to 1,300 members, up from about 1,200.

The awards dinner was the first under the Chamber’s new Chief Executive Chris Hall. He was named the Chamber’s new CEO in March.

The awards included the following:

— Henri A. Benoit Award for Leadership in the Private Sector: awarded to WEX, Portland Press Herald, Quirk Chevrolet and Maine Red Claws as the founders of the Stars & Stripes Spectacular fireworks display on July 4.

— Neal W. Allen Award for Leadership in the Public Sector: awarded to Mayor Michael Brennan, Portland’s first popularly elected mayor in nearly 100 years.

— Robert R. Masterton Award for Economic Development: awarded to Fluid Imaging Technologies Inc., which produces a piece of equipment called a FlowCAM that analyzes and photographs microscopic particles suspended in fluid.
