LeBron’s jersey No. 1 in sales around the world

LeBron James has the world’s best-selling NBA jersey.

The Miami Heat star and four-time league MVP tops the NBA’s global list of jersey sales for this past season, according to numbers released Tuesday. James — who also has the top-selling jersey in the United States — outsold Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Heat teammate Dwyane Wade for the No. 1 spot.

James said having the world’s top-selling jersey “means everything” to him.

In U.S. sales, James is followed by Rose, Bryant, Durant, Anthony, Wade, Howard, Williams, Griffin and Rondo.

nKnicks Coach Mike Woodson said J.R. Smith needs to “grow up and do the right things” after the sixth man was suspended five games by the NBA for violating the anti-drug policy.

Woodson said he and the players stand behind Smith, but that they all need to “make sure that he understands it’s something that can’t happen again.”

Smith is recovering from knee surgery, and Woodson doesn’t know when he will be able to return.

BOY’S SOCCER: Erik Wisniewski made 10 saves for Berwick Academy (5-1-2) and Noah Horning made five for Hyde School in a scoreless tie at South Berwick.

GIRLS’ SOCCER: Siobhan McDermott scored a pair of first-half goals and Berwick Academy (7-1) held on for a 2-1 win over Dana Hall at Berwick.

OLYMPICS

CYCLING: Lance Armstrong’s Olympic medal is back with the IOC.

The International Olympic Committee stripped Armstrong of the bronze medal from the 2000 Sydney Games in January after he admitted to doping.

After months of delays, Armstrong handed back the medal two weeks ago to the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The IOC said Wednesday it has received the medal from the USOC and placed it in storage at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

SKIING: Lindsey Vonn’s surgically repaired right knee feels so good she could be racing again by the end of the month, five weeks earlier than she originally expected.

Vonn “reopened” the idea of competing in the season-opening World Cup event in Soelden, Austria, after returning to the slopes last month in Portillo, Chile. The World Cup in Soelden is Oct. 26-27.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Bayern Munich and Real Madrid produced dominant performances as Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo found the net on a good night for Europe’s top forwards.

Robben helped Bayern outclass Manchester City, 3-1.

Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria scored two goals each for Real Madrid in a 4-0 rout of Copenhagen.

TENNIS

CHINA OPEN: Li Na reached the quarterfinals by edging Sabine Lisicki, 7-5, 6-4.

In men’s play, Rafael Nadal, aiming to end Novak Djokovic’s run of 100 weeks at the top of the ATP ranking, beat Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 7-6 (3) to move into the third round.

NASCAR: Penske Racing signed Brad Keselowski and Miller Lite to contract extensions through the 2017 season.
