CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire bird watchers have seen a lot of hawks from an observation platform in Concord this season – at least 10,000.
Carter Hill Orchard’s platform is one of 200 sites contributing daily online data on the migration route known as the Eastern Flyway.
The New Hampshire Audubon Society says it’s only the second time since observation began there in 2008 that the numbers have reached that high.
During the fall migration season, the society welcomes visitors to its raptor observatories at the orchard and at Pack Monadnock at Miller State Park in Peterborough.
WMUR-TV reports as thousands of raptors pass overhead, Audubon staff tally birds as part of an international effort to monitor raptor population trends.
