Volunteers help give school library new Internet access

The Kathleen A. Wittmer Memorial Library at Holy Cross Catholic School received a major upgrade over the summer thanks to a small group who volunteered more than 400 hours. The library is now automated with a Web-based software system called Destiny that makes some 4,000 book titles available to readers via Internet access.

The project, and the library itself, is a labor of love for volunteers from the school community who acquire, catalog and label the books.

The library opened on March 3, 2007 and was dedicated to Katie Wittmer, a second-grade student who lost her battle.

Head librarian and volunteer Jenny Hall was key in realizing the library and all aspects of its development over the years.

Through proceeds from book fairs and the Love Our Library campaign, the school has raised nearly $15,000 for the library in the past five years.
