MADISON — A Maine commercial tomato producer that had to stop growing this summer because of an infestation is again planting greenhouses and bringing back workers.

Backyard Farms spokesman Mike Aalto said Friday that 60 to 70 workers who were furloughed because of the white fly infestation will be back at work next week.

He told the Morning Sentinel the company plans to have tomatoes back in the stores by January.

Backyard Farms sells tomatoes to retailers such as Hannaford Bros., Walmart and Whole Foods.
