A Maine couple received minor injuries when their single-engine plane crashed into Northeast Cove on Moosehead Lake Saturday night.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said the plane went into the lake as it was attempting a water landing at about 7 p.m. The Cessna 185 four-seater with pontoons sank in about 20 feet of water, McCausland said.

The pilot was Thomas Coleman, 31, of West Forks. The passenger was Ashli Goodenow, 24, of Portland, who was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with a minor head injury. Coleman also sustained minor injuries but did not need hospitalization.

McCausland said Coleman told investigators he was flying from Jackman. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
