PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island attorney general’s office is warning Red Sox fans to be wary of possible scams when looking for World Series tickets.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s office on Monday warned that there may be unscrupulous people out to take advantage of the team’s first appearance in the World Series since 2007.
He says fans should be on the lookout for counterfeit tickets or inflated prices.
He recommends people buy tickets directly from a broker approved by Major League Baseball and use a credit card rather than paying by wire transfer or cash.
Ticket sellers in Rhode Island are not allowed to charge a service fee of more than $3 or 10 percent of the ticket price, whichever is greater.
