Police across Maine will again take part in the national “drug take-back” effort, aimed at giving Maine households a safe place to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

More than 160 collection points have been set up for residents to drop off the drugs, which will then be safely disposed of. The take-back effort takes place Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

This is the seventh time in recent years that local and state police, along with sheriff offices have taken part in the effort, coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Last April, 22,260 pounds of unwanted drugs were collected in Maine.

A complete list of the collection points is on the federal DEA website.
