Ex-pharmacist serves time in jail for stealing OxyContin

A Bath man who worked as a pharmacist in Brunswick has served two weeks in jail for stealing drugs including OxyContin from the hospital where he worked.

John W. Underwood, 60, pleaded guilty this month in Cumberland County Superior Court to stealing drugs in connection with a series of thefts of oxycodone and Ambien from Mid Coast Hospital, where he was pharmacy manager, in 2011 and 2012.

Underwood was sentenced to two years in prison with all but 14 days suspended.

In addition to 14 days in jail and an $800 fine, Underwood is barred from any job that would give him access to controlled substances, the release said. His pharmacist license was revoked by the Board of Pharmacy in April of 2012

Local electrician accused of assaulting CMP worker

An electrician from Bridgton has been charged with assault on a Central Maine Power Co. worker after being accused of improperly connecting to the utility’s power grid.

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies charged Matthew Ferguson, 51, of Bridgton with misdemeanor assault.

The dispute started in Harrison on Oct. 24, when the CMP worker was at a job site and found that someone had improperly connected to the system’s power supply. The worker reported the information to his supervisor, as he is required to do.

The next day in Casco, the CMP worker arrived at another job site where the same electrician was working. Ferguson allegedly attacked the CMP worker, the sheriff’s office said.

Maine’s scallop fishermen starting their season Dec. 2

Maine fishermen are being given a 70-day scallop season along most of the coast.

Regulators said the upcoming season will begin Dec. 2 and continue through late March from Kittery to Lubec. Fishermen in the scallop-rich waters of Cobscook Bay, along the Canadian border, have been given a 50-day season, which also starts Dec. 2.

Fishermen last year hauled in 2.4 million pounds, the best harvest in a decade. The catch was worth $3.2 million.

Deputies charge two men with stealing snowmobiles

Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies have charged two men with felony theft in connection with the theft of snowmobiles.

Deputy T. Patrick Ferriter pulled over a 1993 GMC Yukon with a snowmobile trailer at 5:15 p.m. Monday on Meadow Road in Casco. The trailer was stolen from a home in Raymond and three snowmobiles that had been on it were found later at one of the accused men’s homes, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies charged Dana Manchester, 22, of Bridgton and Zachariah Pelletier, 20 of Naples with four counts of theft.

BANGOR

Ex-teacher pleads not guilty to federal child porn charges

A former special education teacher has pleaded not guilty to federal child pornography charges.

Partrik Arsenault, 27, who also faces state charges, was ordered held without bail after his arraignment last week in U.S. District Court in Bangor.

Authorities said the Norridgewock resident who taught special education for two years in Wayne, was indicted by a federal grand jury earlier this month on six child pornography charges.
