HOLYOKE, Mass. —Police say the driver of a car that went out of control in Holyoke and landed in a clump of trees about 10 feet off the ground has died.

It appears the car was headed east on Route 141 near the Interstate 91 exchange when it failed to negotiate a curve at about 1 a.m. Sunday and struck the curb, police said. The car went airborne, sheared a telephone pole and landed in the trees. The driver, a male in his 30s alone in the vehicle, was declared dead at the scene.

His name was not released pending notification of his family.

An autopsy, including toxicology tests, is scheduled to try to determine what caused him to lose control.
