AUGUSTA — A pickup truck struck a school bus Tuesday on Riverside Drive.

Initial witness reports and emergency radio transmissions indicated that none of the children on the school bus were hurt, but LifeFlight was called for a person in the pickup truck who was trapped in the vehicle for more than 40 minutes.

An automated voice message sent to Augusta parents said the driver and three Cony students were not injured in the crash. The same message indicated that elementary bus runs were delayed because of the crash.

The crash occurred just before 2:30 p.m., in the area of 860 Riverside Drive near the Stevens Road intersection. The truck apparently hit the back of the bus and was stuck underneath for some time.

A portion of Riverside Drive was closed for a time.
