BRUNSWICK — Lucas Hausman scored 19 points, John Swords had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Bowdoin overcame a 13-point first-half deficit to beat St. Joseph’s 69-65 in a men’s basketball game Saturday afternoon.

A Hausman 3-pointer put Bowdoin up 57-56 with 5:56 left, and the Polar Bears (3-0) maintained a slim advantage the rest of the way.

Nich Jobin had 24 points, six rebounds and five assists for St. Joseph’s (1-2). Steve Simonds added 16 points and seven rebounds.

USM 74, KEENE STATE 67: Southern Maine got a huge second half from Kyle Pluchino, whose 16 points and eight assists all came after the break, and the Huskies (3-1) rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit against the Owls (0-3) at Gorham.

Conor Sullivan had 20 points and eight assists, James Odneal scored 15 points, and Tyler Penney added 12 points and eight rebounds.

BATES 72, UNE 54: Graham Safford sank five 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 32 points, and the Bobcats (4-1) outlasted the Nor’easters (0-4) at Biddeford.

Mike Boornazian added 18 points and 13 rebounds. Devin Thompson and Justin Pollard each scored 11 points for UNE.

COLBY 96, UMAINE-FORT KENT 55: Ryan Jann scored 18 points, Sam Willson had 17 and the Mules (3-1) cruised past the Bengals (1-3) on the first day of the Colby Classic at Waterville.

SMCC 82, EMCC 64: Jose Nouchanthavong had 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and the Seawolves (8-1, 3-0 YSCC) held the Golden Eagles (4-4, 4-2) to 36 percent shooting in a win at South Portland.

Jon Amabile added 14 points, and Jacob Loveridge and Davis Nicholson had 10 apiece. De’Anthony McCormick scored 23 for Eastern Maine C.C.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

KEENE STATE 68, SOUTHERN MAINE 64: USM (2-2, 0-1 Little East) overcame a 20-point deficit in the final 13 minutes of regulation but lost to the Owls (2-2, 1-0 Little East) in overtime at Gorham.

Mariah Callendar scored 14 points, Erin McNamara added 12, and Rebecca Knight and Megan Pelletier followed with 10 apiece for USM.

BOWDOIN 76, BATES 40: The Polar Bears (4-0) opened the second half with a 21-2 run and went on to beat the Bobcats (3-2) in a nonconference game at Brunswick.

Kirsten Prue paced Bowdoin with 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Chelsea Nason and Meredith Kelly each had 11 points for Bates.

ST. JOSEPH’S 62, MAINE MARITIME 51: Morgan Cahill scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Monks (3-1) held off the Mariners (2-2) at Castine.

ROGER WILLIAMS 71, COLBY 51: Carylanne Wolfington scored 16 points for Colby (3-2) in a loss to the Hawks (4-0) at Bristol, R.I.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 74, EASTERN MAINE C.C.: The Seawolves (5-2, 3-0 YSCC) opened with a 15-0 run against the Golden Eagles (0-7, 0-1) at South Portland.

Danielle McCusker had 15 points and Jaimi Poland added 14.

UNE 4, SACRED HEART 3: Jenni Poulin’s backhander 1:46 into overtime lifted the Nor’easters (3-2-3) over the Pioneers (1-5-2) at Biddeford.

Emily Corrales, Gabriella Moscato and Gabby Grugnale also scored for UNE.

COLBY 4, BOWDOIN 3: Samantha Slotnick scored the winner six minutes into the third period as the Mules (2-2, 2-2 NESCAC) topped the Polar Bears (0-2, 0-2) at Waterville.

PROVIDENCE 8, MAINE 1: Audra Richards scored for the Black Bears (0-9-3) in a loss to the Friars (5-7) at Providence.

MANHATTANVILLE 6, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: Kaleigh Heath, Erin Banfield and Ally Vanidestine each had a goal and an assist, but USM (5-1, 4-1 ECAC East) fell to the Valiants (3-2-1, 3-1) at Stamford, Conn.

CROSS COUNTRY

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Will Geoghegan of Brunswick, Matt McClintock of Athens and Bethanie Brown of Waterville earned All-America honors at the NCAA Division I championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

Geoghegan, a senior at Darmouth, finished 14th with a time of 30 minutes, 22.1 seconds in the 10-kilometer men’s race. McClintock, a Purdue sophomore, placed 37th in 30:44.2.

Brown, a freshman at Iowa State, completed the 6-kilometer women’s race in 20:43.6, finishing 37th.

• South Portland’s Amelia Lundkvist, a senior at Brandeis, was 21st in the women’s 5-kilometer race at the NCAA Division III championships in Hanover, Ind., finishing in 21:50.3. Bowdoin’s Lucy Skinner also became an All-American with a 30th-place finish in 21:57.6.

Bowdoin senior Coby Horowitz earned All-America honors in the 8K men’s race, finishing 12th in 25:02.4.
