AUGUSTA — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is touting his accomplishments throughout his first 1,000 days on the job, like paying the state’s hospitals about $490 million in unpaid Medicaid expenses, in a new 28-page booklet.

LePage said that the booklet “Moving Maine Forward” shows that his administration’s efforts have yielded real results on his campaign promises like job creation and welfare reform.

“Our administration has set clear priorities that focus on creating a more prosperous place for Mainers in the state we call home,” he said in a statement.

The book says that LePage has overseen a $74 million annual reduction in electricity costs for homeowners, provided tax relief for about two-thirds of taxpayers and streamline regulations. He said he’s also overseen changes that have flown under the radar, like initiatives that provide health insurance relief to micro-businesses owners and helped Mainers.

But Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves of North Berwick says LePage’s book doesn’t tell the whole story. He says LePage’s policies, like not accepting federal dollars to expand Medicaid coverage under the federal health care overhaul, are hurting Maine’s economy and moving the state backward.

“He has undercut public education, health care, and our natural resources at every turn. What does it say when your top accomplishment is denying and delaying health care for tens of thousands of Mainers, including nearly 3,000 veterans?”
