WATERVILLE — A Winter Street man was arrested Monday night after he threw his girlfriend down a stairway and threatened neighbors with a knife, police said.

Police found the man, Brian Pelletier, 33, yelling at neighbors and waving a folding box cutter after they were called to 5 Winter St. to deal with a noise complaint and a domestic argument, said Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey, of the Waterville Police Department.

When police ordered Pelletier to put the knife down, he threw it down the stairway, narrowly missing a 15-year-old boy, Rumsey said.

Witnesses told police that Pelletier had kicked his girlfriend and thrown her down the apartment complex stairs, Rumsey said. When tenants tried to intervene, Pelletier threatened to slit their throats, Rumsey said.

Pelletier was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony; domestic-violence reckless conduct, a class C felony; domestic-violence assault, a class D misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a class E misdemeanor.

Pelletier was unable to post bail and was taken to the Kennebec County jail. He is scheduled to appear Jan. 14 in Kennebec County Superior Court.
