PROVIDENCE, R.I. — In real estate, it’s all about location.

In sports, it’s all about timing.

Exhibit A is Portland Pirates center Andy Miele.

Miele’s wrap-around goal at 8:06 of the third period snapped a 2-2 tie and Portland broke a five-game losing streak Sunday by beating the Providence Bruins 4-2.

Tobias Rieder scored into an empty net at 19:59 to ice the win.

Miele and wrap-around goals are words that have never been used in the same sentence.

“(Chris Brown) got a shot on net and I think the goalie (Niklas Svedberg) lost it,” Miele said. “I picked it up and stuffed it on a wrap-around. I think that was the first wrap-around goal I’ve ever scored.

“Going back to when I first started playing hockey from when I can remember, I think that’s my first wrap-around goal.”

Miele, who assisted on Rieder’s goal, shared the spotlight with rookie goaltender Louis Domingue (31 saves) who was called up from the East Coast Hockey League’s Gwinnett Gladiators to replace the injured Mike Lee.

Domingue’s last AHL game was on Nov. 17 when he stopped 43 shots in Portland’s 4-3 shootout win over Providence.

“He’s a big guy (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) and he covers a lot of net,” Coach Ray Edwards said of Domingue. “He’s athletic. He uses the other hand (his catching hand is his left) which is a little different for people.

“He plays the puck well and is a confident goalie. He’s had success in his past. He had a real good year last year in the East Coast League. He’s ready to play in this league but we happen to have three goalies. Now, with Mike being hurt he’ll get his opportunity to play.”

Portland’s first-period play could be summed up by mentioning two names: Domingue and Brandon Gormley.

Domingue stopped all 12 shots, including several testers, while Gormley scored the period’s lone goal at 17:01 with a seeing-eye slap shot that beat Svedberg (24 saves) top shelf .

Domingue twice robbed Nick Johnson early in the second period, the latter on a breakaway.

Portland rewarded Domingue at 10:09 when Darian Dziurzynski poked home a Mathieu Brisebois rebound.

But Johnson extracted his revenge by helping Providence tie the game at 2-2 entering the second intermission.

Providence was on a power play when Johnson’s slapper was blocked by Domingue, but Carter Camper buried the rebound at 11:32.

Then at 15:34, Johnson buried a wrist shot after collecting a pass from Joe Morrow.

“Obviously, we addressed Friday on Saturday morning,” Edwards said referring to an 8-2 blowout loss at Worcester.

“We played much better last night (Saturday’s 4-3 shootout loss to Manchester). We had a heartbreaker of a game because we had a 3-2 lead and we had a bad bounce. They tied the game and won in a shootout.

“We were real patient today. I give the guys credit because after Friday we weren’t happy with the outcome but they found a way to be better the next two games.”
