BALDWIN — Route 113 in Baldwin had to be shut down Sunday evening for more than three hours after a tractor-trailer truck owned by the Poland Springs bottling company crashed and turned onto its side.
Capt. Donald Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said the driver, 46-year-old David Nelson, lost control of his vehicle on an ice-covered curve. The truck went off the side of the road, traveled 360 feet into a ditch and rolled over.
The impact crushed the cab around Nelson. It took the Baldwin and Standish fire departments another 30 minutes to extricate Nelson from the wreckage. He was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident took place around 4 p.m. in the area of the Rocky Dunn Road in Baldwin. The road re-opened around 7:30 p.m.
Goulet said the cause of the accident remains under investigation, but it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors.
