PROVIDENCE, R.I. — New England’s unemployment rate declined to 6.9 percent in November, just below the U.S. average.
The New England information office of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the rate for the six-state region on Thursday. It was down from 7.1 percent in October and 7.2 percent a year earlier.
The national unemployment rate in November was 7 percent.
Rhode Island had the highest jobless rate in the region, at 9 percent, which ties it with Nevada for the worst in the nation.
Connecticut’s rate was 7.6 percent, Massachusetts’ was 7.1 percent, Maine’s was 6.4 percent, New Hampshire’s was 5.1 percent and Vermont’s was 4.4 percent.
