Kehilah Portland Messianic Jewish Synagogue has purchased a pre-Holocaust Torah scroll that was obtained from a Yeshiva (an Orthodox Jewish seminary/college) in Israel. Torah scrolls were not documented prior to 1948, indicating it predates World War II and the tragic events that occurred. It is thought the scroll dates from the 1920s and originally came from Bulgaria, Romania or Poland prior to the war and has remained safe in Israel.

Kehilah Portland will hold its first Torah service on Feb. 15 during the regular Shabbat service. Services are held at 10 a.m. Saturdays at the Greater Portland Christian School gymnasium, 1338 Broadway, South Portland. Visit www.shalommaine.com for more information.
