Shawn Casey and Brian Chick have joined Dawson, Smith, Purvis & Basset.

Casey has a small-business background with experience in accounting, operations and IT. He joined the firm in December 2013 after completing an internship earlier in the year.

Chick brings experience in taxation of individuals and privately held business, as well as performing audits, reviews and compilations for not-for-profits, for-profits and governmental entities. He previously worked for public accounting firms in Oregon and Maine.

Chet Randall, Esq. joined Molleur Law Offices as their newest consumer protection attorney. Randall has extensive experience in foreclosure prevention strategies, including loan modification, foreclosure mediation, foreclosure defense, homeowner defense and litigation.

Samantha Coughlin was hired as a customer service administrative assistant. Coughlin worked previously at Giroux Energy Solutions.

Kirsten Bakke was hired as a customer service representative.

Dana Eidsness was hired to run the newly established Maine North Atlantic Development Office. Eidsness has previously worked for the Maine International Trade Center, the Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and most recently as director of international business for the Vermont Chamber of Commerce.

AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS

Oxford Hills Family Practice was selected by Maine Quality Counts as a pilot site to advance Choosing Wisely, an initiative to identify the best practices for engaging physicians and patients in conversations about the overuse of medical tests and procedures that may be unnecessary, and in some instances can cause harm. The family practice will receive a mini-grant and technical support to identify opportunities and barriers to implementing these conversations.

Moose Landing Marina in Naples was recognized by Nautic Global with an outstanding dealer award as a national sales leader for the Nautic Global Group boat product lines for the 2013 model year.

Camp Sunshine, a national retreat in Casco for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, was honored with a prestigious 2013 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations. Camp Sunshine was recognized for the large number of positive reviews it received from people who had direct experience with the organization – reviews written by volunteers, donors and clients.

GENERAL

Belfast’s Comfort Inn Ocean’s Edge became a Fireside Inn & Suites property. The inn, owned by Lafayette Hotels of Bangor, has been renamed the Fireside Inn & Suites Ocean’s Edge.

When the Comfort Inn franchise agreement came up for renewal, Lafayette Hotels opted not to extend it. Contracts with national hotel brands are very restrictive, occasionally even prohibiting upgrades that exceed brand standards.

Dale Carnegie Maine has relocated to 324 Cummings Road in South Portland.

Diversified Communications has acquired both The Accounts Payable Network and The Accounts Receivable Network from Financial Operations Network LLC. The move builds upon an investment the company made earlier this year, the acquisition of the Institute of Finance and Management.

Diversified will operate these products from its division located in Portland, forming the largest organization for financial operations professionals.

Rising Tide PR was awarded the public awareness and outreach contract by Maine Food Strategy. Rising Tide PR will provide strategic communications, media relations and graphic design services to Maine Food Strategy staff and stakeholders.

Susan Tompkins and Carla Bryant will provide public relations and graphic design services to advance Maine Food Strategy’s mission.

Tompkins, a principal of Rising Tide PR, has more than 20 years of strategic marketing and public relations experience. She lives in South Portland. Bryant is a graphic designer who lives in Cape Elizabeth.
