A Windsor man was arrested Friday on charges that he shook his then-6-month-old daughter violently last month, causing such severe brain damage that she is now blind, a Maine State Police spokesman said.

Kevin Peaslee, 21, was arrested by state and Augusta police after he was indicted earlier in the day by the Kennebec County grand jury, Stephen McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

Peaslee was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and taken to the Kennebec County Jail, the release said.

Police said that on Dec. 21 Peaslee violently shook his infant daughter, Aleah Peaslee, resulting in multiple injuries, including severe brain damage and blindness. He is expected to make his first court appearance early next week.

Aleah Peaslee remains in grave condition at Maine Medical Center, the release said.

Peaslee and his girlfriend, Ginny Trask, recently moved in with Peaslee’s parents in Windsor, it said, adding that they lived in an apartment on Capitol Street in Augusta at the time of the incident.
