DURHAM, N.H. — Xavier Pollard’s jumper midway through the second half gave Maine the lead and he added eight of the Black Bears’ final 19 points to spark a 68-60 win over New Hampshire in men’s basketball Wednesday night.

Maine held the Wildcats scoreless for almost three minutes down the stretch to secure the win.

The game was the 184th meeting between the rivals. Maine holds a 117-67 advantage in the series, but New Hampshire swept both of the games a year ago.

Pollard finished with 20 points to lead Maine (4-16, 2-6 America East).

Ethan Mackey added 12 and Till Gloger 10.

New Hampshire (5-16, 3-5) had won three of its last four games after snapping a 13-game losing streak that spanned nearly three months.

SMCC 121, UNITY 84: Tong Akot scored 22 points, and Jose Nouchanthavong had 14 points and 11 assists as the Seawolves (17-6, 11-2 YSCC) downed the Rams (1-11, 1-10) at South Portland.

ST. JOSEPH’S 72, EMMANUEL 70: Steve Simond’s free throw with five seconds to play gave the Monks (10-8, 9-2 GNAC) a win over the Saints (4-14, 2-9) in Standish.

Zach Blodgett led St. Joseph’s with 23 points.

EASTERN NAZARENE 78, UNE 61: Jeremy Wagner scored 14 points, Justin Wagner had 11 and the Lions (14-4, 6-4 Commonwealth Coast) cruised past the Nor’easters (1-17, 1-10) at Biddeford.

Brayden Morse had 18 points and 13 rebounds for UNE, which trailed 26-8 just over eight minutes into the game.

(1) ARIZONA 60, STANFORD 57: Nick Johnson hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 51 seconds left and a pair of free throws with 5.8 seconds left to lift the visiting Wildcats (21-0, 8-0 Pac-12) over the Cardinal (13-7, 4-4).

(2) SYRACUSE 67, WAKE FOREST 57: Freshman Tyler Ennis scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half as the Orange (20-0, 7-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) topped the Demon Deacons (14-7, 4-4) at Winston-Salem, N.C.

(6) KANSAS 92, (16) IOWA STATE 81: Andrew Wiggins scored a career-high 29 points, including six straight late in the game, to lead the Jayhawks (16-4, 7-0 Big 12) to a victory over the Cyclones (15-4, 3-4) at Lawrence, Kan.

ST. BONAVENTURE 78, (21) UMASS 65: Youssou Ndoye scored 11 of his 12 points in the second half, and the Bonnies (13-8, 3-4 Atlantic 10) clamped down on defense to upset the Minutemen (17-3, 4-2) at Olean, N.Y.

PENN ST. 71, (24) OHIO ST. 70: D.J. Newbill hit a pull-up jumper over Aaron Craft with two seconds left in overtime, lifting the Nittany Lions (11-10, 2-6 Big Ten) over the Buckeyes (16-5, 3-5) at Columbus, Ohio..

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UNE 72, EASTERN NAZARENE 37: The Nor’easters (16-2, 10-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference) roared to a 31-4 first-half lead over the Lions (5-12, 1-9) in Biddeford.

UNE, which has won 12 of 13, was led by Kelly Coleman’s game-high 21 points.

SMCC 91, UNITY 24: Danielle McCusker had 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals to pace the Seawolves (15-5, 11-1 YSCC) over the Rams (2-11, 2-9) at South Portland.

Esther Palmieri added 14 points and nine assists, and Nyalieb Deng had 11 points and 11 steals for SMCC.

ST. JOSEPH’S 71, BATES 64: Abby Young had 30 points and 12 rebounds, and the Monks (14-4) used a late 9-0 run to close out the Bobcats (7-11) at Lewiston.

Bates rallied from a 12-point, second-half deficit to take a 63-62 lead on Julia Rafferty’s 3-pointer with 3:49 to go. Morgan Cahill put St. Joseph back in front with a pair of free throws, and Young scored six straight before Sarah Assante capped the spurt with a free throw with 40 seconds left.

Meredith Kelly scored 24 points for the Bobcats.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 74, MAINE 73: Elizabeth Belanger scored 20 points and hit a jumper with 1.4 seconds left to lift the Wildcats (12-8, 6-1 America East) over the Black Bears (10-11, 4-4) at Bangor.

Maine led 39-36 at halftime and maintained a slim advantage until the closing seconds.

New Hampshire’s Ariel Gaston drove for a layup with 15 seconds left to cut the deficit to one, then Belanger rebounded a missed free throw before racing down for the winning shot.

Liz Wood paced the Black Bears with 18 points.
