NORTH BERWICK — Brady Dodge scored 21 points, Grayson Waterman added 17 and eighth-seeded Noble held on for a 66-63 victory against ninth-ranked Gorham in a Western Class A schoolboy basketball prelim Tuesday night.

The Knights (11-8) will meet top-ranked Portland (18-0) in the quarterfinals at 9 p.m. Friday at the Portland Expo.

Dodge and Waterman combined for 19 points in the first quarter, when Noble took a 23-15 lead. The Knights were up 57-45 after three and survived a 2-of-10 spell from the line in the fourth that helped Gorham (8-11) creep back in.

Sam Kilborn scored 23 points for the Rams. Corey Nadeau and Billy Ruby each had 10.

 

SANFORD 63, WINDHAM 35: John Morgan scored 25 points to lead the sixth-seeded Spartans (13-6) against 11th-ranked Windham (12-7) in a Western Class A prelim at Sanford.

Joshua Schroder scored eight points and Sanford’s defense set the early tempo for a 21-9 lead.

Evyn Nolette added 14 points and Schroder 12 for Sanford, which will meet Bonny Eagle at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Portland Expo.

 

YORK 63, LINCOLN ACADEMY 30: Michael Gallagher scored eight of his 15 points in the first half as the eighth-ranked Wildcats (10-9) used a shutdown defense to open a 23-5 lead against ninth-seeded Lincoln Academy (9-10) in a Western Class B prelim at York.

Adam Legg added 11 points for York, which will meet top-ranked Greely at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Portland Expo.

LAKE REGION 54, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 52: Marcus DeVoe hit two free throws with three seconds left to lift the seventh-seeded Lakers (10-9) over the 10th-ranked Raiders (8-11) in a Western Class B prelim at Naples.

The Lakers, who will meet second-seeded Morse at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Portland Expo, rallied from a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter, tying the game on two Mark Williams free throws with 23 seconds left. DeVoe was then fouled on a defensive rebound.

 

ELLSWORTH 47, MEDOMAK VALLEY 44: Griffin Nightingale drained a 3-pointer from the far corner with three seconds left to lift the 10th-seeded Eagles (10-9) over the No. 7 Panthers (10-9) in an Eastern Class B prelim at Waldoboro.

HOCKEY

SCARBOROUGH 3, CHEVERUS 0: Matt Henderson scored twice and Ben Bragg made 18 saves as the Red Storm (11-3-1) shut out the Stags (8-7-1) at Biddeford.

Colin Hayward also scored and Eric Grantz had two assists.
