WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Maine women’s basketball team beat Hartford for the first time in 10 years Wednesday, outworking the hosts on the offensive glass to secure a 60-56 victory at Chase Arena.

The Hawks had won the previous 18 games in the series, include a buzzer-beating heartbreaker at Maine earlier in the season.

Ashleigh Roberts paced Maine with 13 points and nine rebounds while Liz Wood added 13 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals. Sophie Weckstrom contributed 10 points and three assists.

Maine (14-11, 8-4 America East) grabbed 42 rebounds, 14 on the offensive end to offset 35-percent shooting (22 for 63).

Deanna Mayza led all scoreres with 17 points for the Hawks (9-15, 6-5) while Amber Bepko tallied 10.

Maine returns home Sunday, when it faces off against the top team in America East, the Albany Great Danes. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
