FORT MYERS, Fla. — Mike Pelfrey pitched two scoreless innings in his spring debut after a poor season, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Boston Red Sox 8-2 on Friday.

Pelfrey allowed one hit. The Twins’ starter went 5-13 with a 5.19 ERA last year.

Mike Napoli got two hits for Boston. David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia each went 0 for 2.

Twins leadoff hitter Alex Presley, vying to be the starting center fielder, went 0 for 3.

Red Sox reliever Andrew Miller walked three batters in the fifth inning and all of them scored.

Minnesota got three runs in the fourth after three singles off Cuban right-hander Dalier Hinojosa.

MARINERS: Taijuan Walker’s ascension to a spot in the rotation is on hold after exams revealed inflammation in the bursa of his right shoulder. He will be shut down for at least a week.

Also, right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma will wear a splint on his injured right middle finger for another three weeks before starting to throw.

YANKEES: Masahiro Tanaka could make his first regular-season start in New York’s third or fourth game.

The Yankees complete a three-series at Houston on April 3, then have a day off before a three-game set at Toronto. Manager Joe Girardi said, “I think that’s pretty safe to say” the Japanese right-hander will start game three or four.

Tanaka is to make his first spring-training appearance Saturday against Philadelphia.

TIGERS: Shortstop Jose Iglesias is expected to be out for about a week because of a recurring shin problem.

Iglesias finished second in last year’s American League rookie of the year vote, hitting .303 in 109 games. Detroit acquired him from Boston just before the 2013 trade deadline, and the Tigers plan to use him as their starting shortstop after letting Jhonny Peralta leave via free agency.

DODGERS: Pitcher Zack Greinke was scheduled to undergo treatment after straining his right calf after four pitches during his first spring-training start.

Manager Don Mattingly was hopeful Greinke could throw a scheduled bullpen session Saturday.

The Los Angeles medical staff diagnosed the strain as mild following Thursday’s injury.
