PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Kyle Silva hit a tying three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning and the University of Maine scored in the 10th to down Northeastern 6-5 in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday.

In the 10th, Shane Bussey reached on a fielder’s choice and scored the go-ahead run for the Black Bears (3-7) on an error by Northeastern (3-6).

Charlie Butler retired the side in order in the bottom of the 10th inning to cap two scoreless innings of relief for the Black Bears.

Silva finished with two hits and four RBI, and Bussey had two hits and scored twice.

Maine also got two hits, an RBI and a run from Colin Gay.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 18, PLYMOUTH STATE 12: Hannah Tavella scored a career-high eight goals for the Nor’easters (3-0), who closed the game with a 6-1 run to pull away from the Panthers (0-1) at Biddeford.

Hannah Warren added four goals and Gina Newsome scored twice for the Nor’easters.

The eight goals by Tavella was one short of the university record.

BATES 16, SOUTHERN MAINE 5: Wally Pierce and Moriah Greenstein scored four goals apiece for the Bobcats (2-1) against the Huskies (0-1) at Lewiston.

Greenstein also had three assists, and Blair Shrewsbury added two goals and two assists for the Bobcats, who led 4-0 less than four minutes into the game.

Jacki Kelly scored twice for USM. Lauren Lessard, Laura Fay and Nicole LaPlante also scored.

MEN’S LACROSSE

BOWDOIN 13, KEENE STATE 7: Conor O’Toole scored three goals for the Polar Bears (2-0), who took a 7-1 halftime lead and beat the Owls (1-2) at Brunswick.

The Owls pulled within 10-7 midway through the fourth quarter, but Bowdoin responded with three straight goals.

Mac Caputi and Peter Reuter added two goals apiece, and Caputi added an assist for the Polar Bears.

Franklin Reis and Tyler Williams also had a goal and an assist each for Bowdoin.

MAINE 2, WESTERN MICHIGAN 1: Felicia Lennon hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Black Bears (1-1) over the Broncos (7-10) at Tampa, Fla.

Kylie Sparks gave up one run on eights hits and struck out five with no walks for Maine.

Ralphs and Lennon finished with two hits apiece for Maine.

SOUTH FLORIDA 8, MAINE 1: Lee Ann Spivey hit a grand slam during a five-run first inning as the Bulls (15-5) downed the Black Bears (1-2) in five innings at Tampa, Fla.

Maine’s lone hit was a two-out single by Jessica Burk in the fourth.
