PRESQUE ISLE — Luise Kummer of Germany was perfect in the markmanship section Wednesday and won the 12.5-kilometer race at the Junior Biathlon competition at the Nordic Heritage Center.

Kummer was timed in 36 minutes, 24 seconds for a 19.4-second edge over Lisa Theresa Hauser of Austria, who was penalized a minute for a missed shot.

The first American finisher was Kelsey Dickinson of Winthrop, Wash., in 41:18. She missed her target seven times for a seven-minute penalty, pushing her back to 40th place. Tara Geraghty-Moats of Fairlee, Vt., was 44th after 12 misses.

In the men’s division, Tore Leren of Norway won by 1 second despite the addition of two penalty minutes for marksmanship. Leren’s time was 40:29.3.

Second place went to Aristide Begue of France, who was perfect on the shooting range and skied the course in 42:30.3.

The best American finish was by Tyler Gustafson of Grand Rapids, Minn., who was 48th.

Gustafson had six minutes in penalties that put him 8:23 behind the leader. Jakob Ellington of Minnetonka, Minn., was 53rd with eight missed shots. The only other American competitor, Jacob Dalberg of Ely Minn., was disqualified.
