A 52-year-old Shapleigh man was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford following a crash in Acton on Thursday morning.

Paul Jackson was driving south on Route 109 in a 2013 Kia Soul when it was involved in a collision with a 2013 GMC cargo van, driven by Brian Richards, 57, of Sanford, according to Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office.

The van was headed north on Route 109 when it turned left to go into the parking lot of the Acton Trading Post, crossing the path of the oncoming car, the sheriff’s office said.

Jackson was knocked unconscious when his car hit the rear quarter panel of the van and he was treated by Acton and Shapleigh rescue workers and Sanford paramedics.

The investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been filed.

Jackson was transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland where a spokesman said he was in fair condition.
