SOUTH PORTLAND — The Riot Crew robotics team at South Portland High School brought home the top prize from the FIRST Robotics District Competition held last weekend at the University of New Hampshire at Durham.

The Riot Crew competed against 35 other teams from across New England, according to the crew’s captain, Ross Usinger, a senior at Deering High School in Portland. The crew won the event in an alliance with the Sprocketology team from the Somerset Career & Technical Center in Skowhegan and The Windham Windup from Windham High School in Windham, N.H. The Riot Crew, which includes students from Scarborough High School, also won the Team Spirit Award.

Crew members are looking forward to the Pinetree District Competition at the Colisee in Lewiston on April 4 and the New England District Championship at the Agganis Arena at Boston University on April 10, Usinger said. They also hope to attend the national championship in St. Louis on April 24-26. Learn about their fundraising efforts at www.riotcrew.org.
