FRYEBURG – A police officer and an Oxford County sheriff’s deputy were assaulted during what police described as a melee Saturday night at a home at 17 Old Mill Road.

Police said they arrested three men at the home after responding to a disturbance call.

Fryeburg police Officer Mark Dyer and Oxford County Deputy Richard Murray arrived shortly before midnight and heard a fight inside the home.

Police said Murray was assaulted as he tried to enter the home. A group of intoxicated men assaulted Dyer as they taunted and confronted the officers, who retreated to await backup assistance, police said.

Maine State Police, Oxford County sheriff’s deputies, Bridgton police, Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies and Fryeburg Rescue personnel responded.

Arrested were Harold Fall, 52, of Fryeburg, who was charged with disorderly conduct, assault on a deputy and refusing to submit to arrest; Jeremy Wentworth, 25, of Conway, N.H., charged with assault on an officer, disorderly conduct, obstructing government administration and refusing to submit to arrest; and Ian MacDonald, 23, of Lovell, charged with obstructing government administration and refusing to submit to arrest.

All three were taken to the Oxford County Jail.

No one was seriously injured, police said.
