AUGUSTA — There’s no end in sight in the battle between Democratic lawmakers and LePage over millions of dollars in bonds the governor is refusing to sign off on.

Democratic leaders called on LePage Monday to immediately release the bonds now that the Appropriations Committee has approved his bill to replenish the rainy day fund. They say he’s stalling job-creating projects.

But LePage’s administration now opposes the measure because Democrats attached $18 million in new spending to it. LePage spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett says Democrats are “addicted to spending” and are playing “bridge-to-nowhere politics.”

LePage says he won’t sign off on bonds until $21 million is put back in the rainy day fund that was tapped to restore revenue sharing.

The House is poised to consider the bill this week.
