WINDHAM – Windham police are investigating a motor vehicle accident that resulted in one person being transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Police said that 60-year-old Ralph Darling of Windham was attempting to cross Route 302 on Tuesday afternoon when his electric scooter or wheelchair was hit by a car.
The car’s driver, 84-year-old Patricia Owens of Denmark, was not injured, but Darling had to be transported to the hospital with what Windham police are describing as non-life threatening injuries.
Windham police in a press release said that Darling was attempting to cross Route 302 in the area of Shaw’s Plaza when he was struck by Owens’ car around 3:15 p.m. That stretch of Route 302 is congested with traffic due to the high volume of retail stores and restaurants that line the road.
