A community discussion about the effects of marijuana on youth is being held Wednesday in Portland.

The public forum will be attended by city officials and groups against drugs and underage alcohol consumption. Portland legalized recreational marijuana for residents age 21 and older when it passed an ordinance last November. The ordinance made it legal for adults to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, but police continue to enforce state law that makes possession of up to 2.5 ounces a civil violation.

The discussion will be held in the lower level of the Portland Public Library. It begins at 6:30 p.m.

The groups sponsoring the event say young people face greater risks from marijuana than older residents and more discussion is needed.
