The Eastern College Athletic Conference named University of Maine linebacker Christophe Mulumba Tshimanga as its Division I Football Championship Subdivision Defensive Rookie of the Year at the annual Eastern college football awards banquet last week in East Rutherford, N.J.
Tshimanga, who recently asked the university to use his full name, led the Black Bears in tackles with 118 as a redshirt freshman. He also made two interceptions and four tackles for losses as the Black Bears went 10-3 and won the Colonial Athletic Association title.
In addition, cornerback Kendall James and offensive lineman Jeff Gakos were named Division I FCS ECAC All Stars.
