Lewiston firefighters spent the pre-dawn hours battling a pair of fires in residential buildings, but there are no reports of injuries.
One fire was reported Thursday morning on Nichols Street and a second later in the morning on Howe Street. A neighbor on Howe Street reported hearing an explosion.
The Red Cross is on the scene to assist displaced residents and a shelter has been set up.
There is no word on possible causes.
