The article in the Press Herald, “Congressman: Time to let go of Benghazi,” was notable in that the congressman was Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Calif.

McKeon is “pretty well satisfied that given where the troops were, how quickly the thing all happened, we probably couldn’t have done more than we did.” He advises his fellow Republicans, “We have been working on this for a long time. It is time to move on.”

The congressman must be commended for his courage in taking a stand contrary to the extreme ideology of the radical members of his party who wish only to prolong their exploitation of the Benghazi tragedy for their own selfish political purposes. This issue is just one more example of a Republican Congress wasting time and taxpayer money in endless and fruitless investigations. It follows the mindless number of efforts to repeal Obamacare.

McKeon is right. It is time for these Republicans to put country before self and “move on.”
