AUGUSTA — A $13 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor is helping Maine’s seven community colleges expand offerings in information technology.
Officials at the community colleges say they will use the funds to launch IT classes and programs in the fall of 2014. A new summer scholarship program is also being offered in five of the community colleges.
Students must be 18 years old and demonstrate financial need to get a summer scholarship.
The grants are projected to serve nearly 2,100 participants in dozens of one- or two-year degree programs.
