I read with interest the excellent Daniel Kany review titled “Art inspired by Portland mansion takes different views” in the April 27 Maine Sunday Telegram.

I worked on the staff of the Victoria Mansion as educational coordinator from 1989 to 1993 under director Bruce Sherwood, and he would turn in his grave if he could see the current exhibition of contemporary art at the Victoria Mansion.

This is not a criticism of the contemporary art now showing at the Victoria Mansion, but a criticism of the taste of the current director and curator, both of whom I do not know!

Contemporary art does not belong in a museum showcasing Victorian culture.

This exhibit is not a bridge into Victorian culture. It is a train wreck.
