The Portland Sea Dogs minor league baseball team’s mascot is walking from Boston to Portland to raise money for Tourette syndrome.
Slugger left Fenway Park in Boston on Sunday at noon en route to Hadlock Field in Portland. He is expected to arrive on Thursday in time for the Sea Dogs’ 6 p.m. game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
The mascot is making the 114-mile trek to raise money for organizations that fund research and support people withTourette syndrome, including the Tourette Syndrome Association.
Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary movements and vocal tics, such as grunts, barks, or words, especially obscenities.
Slugger posted on his Facebook page on Monday that he had crossed the borders of Massachusetts and New Hampshire and was making good time. He is hoping to raise $20,000. Information about donating is available at www.seadogs.com
