AUGUSTA — Residents will get a chance to check out the new Maine-Nova Scotia ferry this weekend.

The Nova Star cruise-ferry is offering free public tours of the new vessel from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in Portland.

Daily round trips between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, are scheduled to begin on Thursday. Ferry operators started listing one-way ticket prices in late March ranging from $79 to $139 for adults and $39 to $64 children, depending on the season.

The ferry has a capacity of 1,200 passengers and offers options such as fine dining, a casino and a spa.

The ship leaves Sunday for a promotional tour to Boston and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, before its first scheduled trip.
