Mookie Betts’ days as a Portland Sea Dog have come to an end.

The 21-year-old Boston Red Sox prospect was called up to triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday, the Sea Dogs confirmed. The Pawtucket Red Sox are beginning a four-game series in Durham, North Carolina, Tuesday night.

Betts was spectacular in 54 games with the Sea Dogs, blistering Eastern League pitchers with a .355 batting average, a .443 on-base percentage and a .994 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage).

He began his first season in double-A as a second baseman, but was recently moved to the outfield, where he likely stands a better chance of reaching the major leagues.

Betts was drafted in the fifth round in 2011 by the Red Sox.
