Massabesic High School’s Top Students

Valedictorian (1) Rayne Whitten – Rayne is the daughter of William and Tracy Whitten of North Waterboro. She played Varsity Soccer, Indoor Track, and Lacrosse for her four years of high school. Rayne’s awards included All Academic Teams for three years, Rookie of the year award in her freshmen year, an Honorable Mention in Soccer and US Lacrosse All Academic Team her Junior year, All Star Soccer Team and SMAA Citizenship Award her Senior year, and Coach’s Awards for her last 3 years. She received the Coach’s Award for two sports in her Junior year. Rayne’s Senior year also included the Maine Principal’s Association Award and Maine Sports Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award. In her Senior year Rayne was Team Captain for all participating sports. She was assistant coach for the kindergarten Massabesic United Soccer Team, and Coached the Massabesic Middle School Lacrosse Team, the Filly Youth Lacrosse Team.. She participated in the SMAA Student Athlete Leadership Summit in her Sophomore year, and she was a 2013 Dirigo Girl’s State Delegate, a 2013 New England Student Leadership Conference Delegate and member of the SMAA Student Advisory Committee in her Junior year. She also received the Phi Beta Kappa Award and AP Scholar with Honors Award in her Junior year. She was her class treasurer in her Sophomore year, a National Honor Society member in her Junior and Senior years and a member of the student council her Senior year. She maintained High Honors and was a Waterboro PTC volunteer for all four years. She also volunteered for the MX207 snack shack for the Lion’s Club. Rayne plans to attend Bates College majoring in Biochemistry.

Salutatorian (2) Olivia Bradley – Olivia is the daughter of Joseph and Susan Bradley of Waterboro. She participated in Regional Fine Arts for Creative Writing for all four years of High School.Olivia participated in Drama for her Freshmen and Junior years She was a member of the Civil Rights Team for her first three years. Olivia talents also include the Lion’s Club Speak Out Contest for her last three years and ranked 3rd place in Regionals her Sophomore year, 1st in Region and 3rd in State her Junior year, and 1st in the Region for her Senior year. She was a Student Representative on the RSU57 school board and a National Honor Society Member for her Junior and Senior years. Other awards include the prestigious Dartmouth Book Award and the drama One Act Festival Ensemble Award in her Junior year. Olivia will attend Tufts University to study International Relations and Peace and Justice Studies .

Honor Essayist (3) Zachary Peters – Zachary is the son of Gerald and Anita Peters of North Waterboro. He was a member of Chorus his Freshmen year and moved into Chamber Singers for his remaining three years of high school. Zachary played First Team Basketball and Soccer in his Freshmen year, JV Basketball and Soccer his Sophomore year, and Varsity Basketball and Soccer his Junior and Senior years. He was also a member of the Varsity Track & Field team as a Freshmen. In his Junior year, Zachary attended “Consider Engineering” at UMO. He was a member of the National Honor Society for both his Junior and Senior years and was President Senior year. His awards include District Music Festival for all four years, Coach’s Award for Basketball Freshmen year, German Consulate Book Award Boston, MA his Freshmen and Sophomore years, the prestigious Williams Book Award, 2013American Legion Dirigo Boys State Delegate, SMAA All Academic Soccer Team his Junior year, and All State Music Festival, SMAA Basketball, SMAA Soccer his Senior year. Zachary also was a volunteer counselor at Camp Laughing Loon for his first three years and an Usher at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church for his last three years. His plan is to study Molecular Biology at Middlebury College.
Mariah Arral – Mariah is the daughter of Tammy Macedo of Waterboro, and Bruce Arral of Massachusetts.  During the early years of high school, Mariah participated in the drama program by working with the One Act Play troupe and the Regional Fine Arts program for drama.  Mariah has also been a member of the MHS soccer team and has donated many hours of community service, logging over 600 hours in the MHS Voluntary Community Service Honors program.  During her sophomore and junior years, Mariah participated in the Lion’s Club Speak Out Contest, earning second place at the local level the first year in which she participated, and as a junior, Mariah was inducted into the National Honor Society.  Mariah will be attending the University of New Hampshire and plans to study chemical engineering.
Abbigayle Beauchesne – Abbigayle is the daughter of Mark and Laura Beauchesne of Shapleigh. She played Lacrosse for her first three years of high school and Field Hockey for her last three years. Abbigayle was a member of the Leo Club for all four years, the Culture Club her Sophomore and Junior years, Student Council, National Honor Society and the Math Team her Junior and Senior years. Her awards include Lion’s Club 50+ hours of community service for her Sophomore and Junior year, Youth Service Award her Junior year, Leo Club president for her Junior and Senior years, and All Academic Team and Field Hockey Captain her Senior year. Abbigayle will be attending Husson University in the fall to become an Occupational Therapist.
Caitlyn Burke – Caitlyn is the daughter of Sean and Brenda Burke of Lyman. She played Lacrosse for her first three years of High School. Caitlyn played flute in her freshmen year and focused on being a volunteer at her local church. She volunteered for all four years and became a youth counselor for Summer Camp. She maintained High Honor Roll for her last three years. Caitlyn will attend York County Community College to complete her core credits and will continue her education for Elementary Education until she has earned her teaching degree.

Shauna Crowley – Shauna is the daughter of James Crowley and Tina Crowley-Colwell of West Newfield. Shauna played Soccer and Softball for all four years of High School. She was a member of Band in her Freshmen year, the Rotary Youth Leadership Association her Junior year, the Leo Club her senior year, and the National Honor Society her Junior and Senior years. Her awards include SMAA All Academic her Junior and Senior years and the Saint Michaels College Book Award in her Junior year. Shauna will be attending Saint Michael’s College in Colchester Vermont majoring in Chemistry and would like to continue her education in the medical field.

Julianne Dumond – Julianne is the daughter of David and Cindy Dumond. She has been dancing since she was four years old and taught Dance classes for all four years of High School. Julianne’s Freshmen year she was Class Treasurer. She was a Teacher’s Aid as a Junior and a member of the National Honor Society her Senior year.

Emily Foglio – Emily is the daughter of Dwayne and Heather Foglio. She was a member of the Varsity Soccer and Track teams for all four years of High School. Her Sophomore year she also participated in Indoor Track. Emily joined the Velocity Soccer Club and was Captain of the Track Team for her Junior and Senior years. Her awards include All Academic Team for her last three years and was MVP Defense for Soccer in her last two years. Emily was also a member of the National Honor Society in her Senior year. She will be attending UNE in the fall in the Physician’s Assistant Program.

Chelsie Goodwin – Chelsie is the daughter of Paul and Jeanine Goodwin of Alfred. She played Basketball and Soccer for all four years of High School. In her Freshmen and Sophomore years she also played Softball. She was a member of the Youth Group in her Freshmen year and Yearbook in her Junior and Senior years. Chelsie’s awards include MVP for Basketball in her Sophomore year and Hustle Award in her Senior year. Also in her Senior year she was recognized with the Most Improved Offense Award and was a member of the National Honor Society. Chelsie will be attending the University of Southern Maine for Pre-Vet and continuing on at Tufts University for her Veterinary Degree.

Samuel Johnston – Samuel is the son of William and Elsie Johnston. He was a member of the Math Team for all four years of High School, was Captain Junior and Senior years.and scored in the Top Ten Percent of the State. Samuel was a member of the National Honor Society. His plans are to go to RTI for Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

Sara Kelley – Sara is the daughter of Richard and Judy Kelley of Shapleigh. She was a Junior Leader for the Four Leaf Clover Club in her Freshmen and Sophomore years. She also participated in Indoor Track in her Sophomore year.Sara was Head Soccer Coach for the Senior Team in her Junior year and the Pee Wee Team in her Senior year. She was a Band Percussion Section Leader and a participant in the Science Olympiad for her last two years of High School. She received the Bronze Medal for Technical Problem Solving her Senior year. Sara was also a member of the National Honor Society her Senior year. She will be attending the University of Maine at Orono in the Explorations program. Her plan is to become a Forensic Scientist.

Jolena Lampron – Jolena is the daughter of Mark and Linda Lampron of Lyman. She played Varsity Basketball and Lacrosse all four years. Jolena participated in Varsity Cross Country her last three years. She was a Middle School Lacrosse Coach as a Sophomore and a Filly Lacrosse Coach as a Junior and Senior. She was also in Yearbook her Junior and Senior years and was given a Yearbook Award her Junior year. Jolena’s Awards include SMAA All Academic all four years, Most Improved Player in Lacrosse her Freshmen and Sophomore years, and Most Valuable Player in Basketball and Most Improved Runner her Senior year. She was also part of the SMAA All Star Team and received the All Star Award. Jolena was a member of the National Honor Society her Junior and Senior years and was Vice President Senior year. She also received the Massabesic Youth Lions Club Community Recognition Award. Jolena is planning to attend either Bates College or the University of New England to study Law and Psychology to become a Lawyer.

Seamus Lynch – Seamus is the son of Michael and Deborah Lynch of Lyman. He participated in Varsity Outdoor Track for all four years. Seamus also played Basketball his Freshmen year, Varsity Indoor Track for his last three years, and was a Physical Education Leader for Adaptive Phys Ed his Senior Year. Awards for Seamus include SMAA All Academic for his last three years with a Most Improved Athlete Sophomore year. He was also a member of the National Honor Society Junior year. Seamus will be attending the University of New Hampshire to study Business Administration.

Danielle Mailhot – Danielle is the daughter of Gail Baker of West Newfield. She participated in the Art Club. and the Drama production “The Doll’s House”. She maintained Honor Roll for all four years of High School. Danielle’s received numerous awards for high achievement that include: Percussion Ensemble, and Biology her Sophomore year, and Honors Chemistry and American Literature in her Junior year. Danielle will attend RIT, Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall.

Michelle Mailhot – Michelle is the daughter of Gail Baker of West Newfield. She participated in the Art Club. Michelle was on Honor Roll for all four years of High School. Michelle received high achievement awards that include: Honors Algebra II, Percussion Ensemble, and Biology her Sophomore year and Honors Pre-Calculus, Latin II, and American Literature in her Junior Year. Michelle will attend RIT, Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall.

Haley Monroe – Haley is the daughter of Steven and Linda Monroe of Shapleigh. She was a member of the Swim Team for all four years. She also participated in NJROTC for her first two years and Tennis and Square Dancing for her last three years. Haley’s awards for NJROTC include Seaman, Honor Cadet, Outstanding Cadet, Exemplary Conduct, and Exemplary Personal Appearance in her Freshmen year. In her Sophomore year her awards were Participation, Unit Service, Community Service, and Photo Officer. For both her Freshmen and Sophomore years she received NJROTC awards for Physical Fitness,and Drill Team. Haley received All Academic Team Awards for all four years. She was captain of the Varsity Swim Team and the Tennis Team in her Senior year and received Most Improved Award in swim. Haley’s plans are to attend University of Rhode Island with a major in Wildlife and will continue on to get her Master’s Degree to work as a Wildlife Biologist.

Bailey Ohman – Bailey is the daughter of Scott and Jennifer Ohman of North Waterboro. She played Varsity Field Hockey and Softball for all four years making the Varsity Softball Team in her Senior year. She was also in Yearbook her Junior and Senior years and a member of the Leo’s Club her senior year. She was All Acadmic Team for her four years and received the Honorable Mention Unsung Hero Award for Field Hockey in her Junior year. She was Captain of the Varsity Softball and Varsity Field Hockey Teams her Senior year and was SMAA Second Team. Bailey maintained High Honor Roll for all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society her Senior year. She also did volunteer work for the Alfred and Lyman Elementary PTC events. Bailey is going to attend Husson University in the fall majoring in Physical Therapy.

Sarah Redman – Sarah is the daughter of Noell and Dawn Redman of Alfred. She participated in Outdoor and Indoor Track all four years. Sarah also ran Cross Country for her Freshmen, Sophomore , and Senior years. She was a member of the Math Team for her Junior year and was the Class Secretary for her Junior and Senior years. In her Senior year she was an Adaptive PE Leader, a History Department Aid, and a member of the National Honor Society. She was Rookie of the year for Outdoor Track as a Freshmen, and added SMAA All Academic Teams to her list of awards for her last three years. She also received the prestigious College of the Atlantic Book Award in her Junior year. Sarah will attend Colby-Sawyer in the fall majoring in Psychology and Legal Studies.

Monica St. Amand – Monica is the daughter of Buck and Karen St. Amand of Alfred. She played Basketball for all four years. She received the SMAA All Academic Award for her Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years. Monica was also a member of the National Honor Society for her Junior and Senior years. She will be attending the University of Southern Maine to Major in Chemistry with a concentration in Secondary Education. She will then pursue a career as a Chemistry Teacher.

Alexandrea Staples – Alexandrea is the daughter of Brad Staples of Lyman, and Doreen Staples of Alfred. She played Field Hockey for all four years. Alexandrea’s awards include Outstanding Offensive Player in her Freshmen year, Most Valuable Offensive Player her Junior year,Co-Faith Littlefield Award, and Varsity Coaches Award in her Senior year. She also received All Conference First Team Award, All Academic Team Award, and Maine All State Award her Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. Alexandrea was Captain of the Field Hockey Team in her Senior year. She maintained the Honor Roll for all four years. In addition to Field Hockey, Alexandrea was a member of the Massabesic Leo’s Community Service Club and the National Honor Society for the last two years and added Student Council as the Co-Community Service Chair in her Senior year. She is attending the University of New England in the fall with an undeclared major. She will play Field Hockey for them and will pursue a career in Law.

Lauren Stetson – Lauren is the daughter of Keith Stetson and Penny Stetson both of Waterboro. She was Class Secretary for her Sophomore year. Lauren was a member of the Chamber Choir for her Freshmen, Sophomore, and Senior years and NJROTC her Freshmen and Sophomore years. She received awards for Drill Academic Team-. American Legion’s Scholar Award and Cadet of the Month in her Freshmen year. Her Sophomore year she added Drill Academic Team-Academic Team Commander and Unit Activities Coordinator to her NJROTC awards. Lauren’s musical awards include District 1 Honors Choir for her Freshmen, Sophomore, and Senior year, and State Vocal Jazz Soloist her Sophomore year. She also participated in Regional Fine Arts for Vocal in her Freshmen year and Creative Writing in her Senior year. She also played Soccer in her Sophomore and Senior years and participated in the Science Olympiad her senior year. She received Bronze in “Scrambler” and “Technical Problem Solving”. Lauren also enjoys volunteering in her spare time. She volunteered for Vacation Bible School and Camp Laughing Loon in her Freshmen year. In her Sophomore year she volunteered in the Nursery at Curtis Lake Church, was a pre-K Sunday School volunteer, and was an Ocean Avenue Elementary Volunteer. Her Senior year, Lauren was a member of the Catholic Youth Leadership Team, was a volunteer for 1st Grade Sunday School, and again volunteered in the Nursery at Curtis Lake Church. Lauren will attend the University of Maine Farmington with a major in Secondary English Education.

McKenzi Stevens – McKenzi is the daughter of Ricki-Ann Stevens of Limerick. She has participated in Upward Bound and Tennis for all four years. She was Class President her Junior year and Captain of the Tennis Team her Senior year.McKenzi was in Amnesty International her Freshmen year and a member of the National Honor Society in her Junior and Senior years. Her awards include All Academic Team for all four years and the Spririt Award Junior year. McKenzi plans to continue her education at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut majoring in Legal Studies. Her goal is to practice law and become a Judge.

Cote Taylor – Cote is the son of Dean and Suzan Taylor of Lyman. He participated in JV Soccer, Premier Soccer, and Olympic Development Program Soccer his Freshmen year. He then moved up to Varsity Soccer his Sophomore year and continue to play that and Premier Soccer for his remaining three years of High School. He again participated in Olympic Development Program Soccer in his Junior year. Cote also added Autocross racing to his activities in his Junior and Senior years. He plans to attend Polytechnic Institute for Mechanical Engineering in the fall.

Nicholas Vigue – Nicholas is the son of Michael and Michelle Vigue of North Waterboro. Nicholas played Soccer and Hockey for all four years. He also played Lacrosse his Freshmen, Sophomore and Senior years. He played Tennis and joined the Math Team his last two years. He was a member of the Student Council for his last three and the Leo’s Club for his Sophomore and Junior years. Nicholas was a Maine Youth Leadership Representative in his Sophomore year and the School Spirit Representative for his Junior and Senior years. He was also a Boy’s State Representative in his Junior year. He was Class President for his Freshmen and Senior years and Student Council President his Senior year. Nicholas was a member of the National Honor Society in his last two years. He maintained High Honor Roll for all four years. He was the Assistant Captain for Hockey his Sophomore year and Captain Junior and Senior years. Nicholas received awards for MVP, Calculus, and the Hobey Baker Character Award. He will be attending Emerson College in the fall getting a BA in Film Production with a minor in Marketing. His goal is to become a Director.
