I am writing in response to Tom Bell’s June 4 article, “State helps as new ferry feels financial pinch.”

My girlfriend and I decided to take the Nova Star ferry to Nova Scotia for a Memorial Day weekend getaway, and we had a wonderful experience.

The ferry trip was very much as described in previous Press Herald articles, basically great with some small glitches.

The service was on par with what you would experience on a cruise ship.

The electrical outlets are European but you can get a converter from the concierge.

You do arrive in a different time zone and lose an hour.

Most shops in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, will take American money, and most bank cards will work in Canadian ATMs.

Yarmouth is a nice town that is very welcoming to visitors.

Every shop owner was glad to see us and very friendly.

Nova Scotia has a lot of colonial history and great restaurants to offer people who make the trip. Portland and Nova Scotia have a lot to gain from the ferry’s success.
