Portland police apprehended a man around 1:30 p.m. Sunday in connection with a stabbing in Poland earlier in the day.

Phillip Audet, 29, of Poland was taken into custody in connection with the stabbing of his uncle, Steven Narbonne, 49, in Poland following a search in the woods off Allen Avenue in Portland at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department said.

The stabbing was reported to the sheriff’s department at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday after the uncle and nephew got into a fight at Narbonne’s home at 197 Torey Road in Poland, the department said in a news release. Audet had been staying at the home. Police said Narbonne was stabbed twice with a butcher knife during the confrontation.

Narbonne was found at a neighbor’s home, where he had collapsed, the sheriff’s department said. The neighbor called for help. Narbonne was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was recovering Sunday after emergency surgery.

Audet left the home in his uncle’s car, which was found at mile 71.5 on the Maine Turnpike, the sheriff’s department said. He was spotted in Portland and taken into custody after a brief search by Portland police using search dogs.
