When a Scarborough doughnut shop checked its security video Thursday morning to see how its back wall may have been damaged, workers learned that the building was rammed by a car in an apparent aborted burglary attempt.

Employees at 91 County Road, the plaza housing Dunkin’ Donuts and Subway, arrived Thursday morning to find studs at the back of the doughnut shop pushed into the building, and damaged vinyl siding on the outside.

When police viewed video from the security system, they saw images of a tan 1997 Toyota Camry shining its lights on the rear door of the structure, then accelerating and hitting the building just to the side of the door, police said.

The car did not break through and after the ramming attempt, drove away, police said.

Damage was estimated at about $2,000.

Police have since found the car and the investigation continues into what happened and who was responsible.
