This 73-year-old veteran is not surprised by the needless loss of life resulting from the Bush invasion of Iraq.

In my brief life we have invaded Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq (not to mention several smaller countries), all for nefarious and dishonest reasons.

Are we not to learn the folly of imperialism in my lifetime?

I was born into a world at war – fought for personal, religious and economic reasons – and I will die in the most imperialist country in all of recorded history.

I love the idea of the United States but abhor what politicians like George W. Bush, Richard Nixon and, yes, Ronald Reagan have bequeathed us.

I also am less than pleased with most of the Democrats.
