PARIS – Deputies with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office are picketing outside a South Paris courthouse in protest of an ongoing labor dispute with the county.

WGAN-TV reported that the deputies want a pay increase and a new contract. Their contract expired two years ago.

The picket line started Tuesday morning outside the Oxford County Superior Courthouse.

The Sun Journal reported Monday that deputies say their pay is too low and they want a $3 per hour raise for full-time deputies. New patrolmen make $14.97 per hour.

County Administrator Scott Cole told the paper only two of 19 officers earn the minimum rate and most make more than $17 per hour.
