The Scarborough 11-12 Little League softball all-stars are heading to their third straight East Regional tournament after winning the state championship last weekend in Hermon.

Scarborough begins pool play in the East Regional in Bristol, Connecticut, at 2 p.m. Saturday against Vermont. Scarborough will play New Hampshire at 2 p.m. Monday, Rhode Island at 11 a.m. Tuesday and Massachusetts at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The top four New England teams advance to play the top four Mid-Atlantic teams in a single-elimination format July 24-25 for a berth in the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon, starting Aug. 7.

Scarborough, the District 6 champion, beat Shaker Valley, the District 4 champs, 6-3 in the state title game on Sunday. With Scarborough trailing 3-0, Sydney Michaelson hit a three-run homer to tie the game in the third. Michaelson had eight hits in five games to pace Scarborough’s offense.

Pitcher Mia Kelley had a 4-1 record, the same as the team’s, in the tournament. She also had six hits. Ava McDonald stood out at second base with five outstanding plays.

Scarborough also beat Auburn, Oceanside and Hermon in the state tournament. Scarborough’s only loss was to Shaker Valley in an earlier round.

Scarborough is comprised of five 12-year-olds and seven 11-year-olds.
